So I always wanted to write about the outdoors. I grew up reading hunting and fishing stories in outdoor magazines and books. I always wanted to live those adventures and write about them myself. My life hasn't always afforded me the opportunities to do so. But fortune smiled and gave me a call to be a pastor in Utah, where with my son, Johny Oohta (a nickname I gave him after his first attempt to pronounce Utah when he was two and we found we were moving here) and his dog Cecelia, I find plenty of occasions to adventure. I have been here now almost seven years, the longest I have lived anywhere. Typically I find myself adventuring 2 or 3 weekends a month, mostly just little day trips here and there. I haven't yet written about most of the adventures, but they get better with time. Right?
In any case this blog will be about my travels with or without Johny Oohta. Hunting, fishing, rock hounding, gold panning, picking elderberries and choke cherries to make wine with, and recipes for the bounty will be the topics.
